These days

Hello! How are you these days.....?

A little update about what I'm up to.

Do you remember Edmund, my serious donkey, who has a tiny friend, Deirde Hedgehog...? I wrote about him before over here and on my Facbook page here.
I'm working on a little Christmas story Edmund is starring in.

Something else is that I've been wanting to be able to draw in pen and ink for quite a while. I'm not the most neat and careful person when I draw and I didn't discover a good pen I could work with yet, because I always made splatters and spots. I really like drawings in pitch-black indian ink and I asked for advice in the art-supplies-shop the other day, about a good pen for me. I have one now I experimented with and this one I can work with, without making a mess. I made a drawing with it of a Japanese little landscape I saw in a photo magazine.

In between my artistic work :-), I do other things too. Like going to the park and watch the trees and investigate if I see autumncolours already (I see some, but not that much yet, trees are mostly green these days). And my sweet mother brought me pumpkin soup. What more could a person ask for?

Here's a glimpse of my life in photographs.

  1. I love your little landscape painting and that cute donkey with boots that sits at the table. So sweet that your mother brought you pumpkin soup! It looks delicious! I would love to see your stories. Have you published them yet?

    1. Thank you Lisa. I haven't published my donkey-stories yet. It's a project developing, I"ll see how that goes along the way, but it would be great to have it published one day!

  3. Love the colours in the photographs - such an Autumn-y palette :) Yes there is much beauty to discover this time of year :) We've been out to the woods to look for conkers and acorns (and we weren't the only ones ;)) - but the most beautiful foliage is right at the end of my street :D
Good to see what you're working on - love the continuing saga of Edmund :D And your pen and ink work is amazing - love the stark black lines! x

    1. Hey Yvonne, thank you. Sometimes the things most beautiful are right at the end of our street :-).

  4. Beautiful photos Esther. I love autumn, it's my favourite time of year with it's pretty sun enhanced colors (when there is a sun out there of course ;) ). I love pumpkins too and I have yet to find the perfect recipe for the pumpkin soup. I had the best one once in Vienna, but only once... it wasn't the same when we returned.

How does your ink pen work? Do you dip it in ink? It certainly suits you and you color your paintings so well.

    1. Thank you Nini. i think the recipes for pumpkin soup are not too complicated. A friend of mine asked me to make a nice drawing of my pumpkin soup photograph and I might include my mothers recipe. Maybe that would be of inspiration to you :-).

The pen is dipped in Indian ink, kind of like the old-fashioned way of writing. I translated the word for the pen, it is a kind of a 'kroontjespe', 'crown pen' in english says google when I translated it. The indian ink is waterproof when it's dry so this gives the opportunity to add water/colors afterwards.I like this.

    2. Oh wow, a drawing with the recipe on it sounds perfect!

I still haven't tried my indian ink I bought whilst visiting your country but I have a feeling I'll like it. Especially combined with the colored inks. Thank you for your inspiration.
