Earth, Love, Tree.

Last year I met a very sweet lady called Nancy who makes very beautiful oil-paintings of (mostly) Dutch scenery's and landscapes (lovely work, take a look overhere). She's a very lovely, open, beautiful, funny and sensitive person.

Ever since I was a kid I've loved animals and especially horses and I was very happy when I met Nancy and her sweet horse named Theo. The first time I met him he was more interested in his green grass than he was to meet me :-), but the second time around he allowed me to cuddle him for a long time in his stable.
A little while ago Nancy asked me to make a little book especially for her. This is the book I made. She gave me a few words/themes that meant something to her: Earth, Love and Tree.
It's an accordeon-folded little book on thick watercolourpaper.

Part of the book.

Tree Museum

The other day I heard the song from the Counting Crows: 'Big Yellow Taxi'.
This part of the lyrics suddenly made me see a clear image in my imagination;

'they took all the trees and put them in a tree-museum
and charged the people dollar and a half to see them.'

Just hope it won't come to this the way we treat our earth…

From sketchbookpage to quote in yellow and pink.

Hi all! Have been practicing some hand-lettering. This has been something I've been wanting to get better at for a long time. I like the illustrated quotes I see around very much. And now, finally, I'm getting a little better at it and I'm actually liking some of the things I've made.

Sea

It seems there is a a sea-and nautic related theme going on in me and my art at the moment (also see my previous post). Interesting to think a bit about where this might be coming from.

Oldies

Sketchbooks all over the place….I tend to start a new one before the previous one is completed….Somehow I need something new every now and then and a new book for new ideas comes in. It's nice to go through 'old' books though. And rediscover drawings. How about my little 'Hugo' character who found a baby-rabbit :-)? I drew him in January last year.

Foxes

A little project together with the lovely cococita from estudios de cococita.
She wrote the little 'haiku' (a kind of a little rhyme). I made the drawing to go with it.
Translation of the haiku in English:

'foxes perched on a tapestry of mosses, set- tled down in the wood'

Take Me With You

Last night when lying in bed, the idea of this image came to mind. An instagram-photo I took last summer of a hot-air balloon and my french girl you might have seen before ;-).

Foxes, French Bathtubs and my website

My website is work in progress. The past week I've been working on presenting my portfolio in an origanized and categorized way. My portfolio-page you can see overhere :http://www.estherlankhaar.com/portfolio.html and I also added seperate pages for my sketchbookwork and my bookillustrations.
Come take a peek if you like!

Today I drew this. I was daydreaming about an antique French bathtub and  I just started drawing one. Before I knew it, a cup of tea, a book and a picture of a fox were added....and ofcourse towels, a sponge, soap....slippers....a flower.....Everything one needs in a bathroom ;-)....
