Am I Romantic?

Another recent purchase and treasure: 'The Collage Workbook' by Randel Plowman (http://acollageaday.blogspot.nl/). I love collages and this book is so inspirational. I immediately felt like trying out some of the ideas from the book. The result is this flowery nature inspired collage. The drawing in the last picture is inspired by a picture of a little cabinet like this I saw in a magazine. The books, the plant, the rug and, well everything besides the cabinet;-) came from my own imagination. Both of these works, the collage and the drawing have a romantic feeling. At least, that's how I see it. I didn't start these with the idea of creating something romantic. My work just turns out this way often. So I suppose it's just the colors and images I feel attracted too.:-). I suppose I'm not considered to be a particularly romantic person. But this might just be a side of me that needs investigation. ;-)

The collage isn't finished, I feel it needs something but I'm not sure yet what. So I"ll just let it rest and something will come to mind.

Tiny Books

I've recently discovered the book 'How to make books' by Esther K. Smith. A fellow-student brought this book to my drawing lessons. I decided to purchase this book myself because the book looked like fun. I can't show you a picture of the books because it was a bit damaged and I sent it back. Still waiting for a replacement, but I took a peek in the book and tried out a simple way to fold a little book. For this one you have to use thin paper, a4 size. After folding it looks like in the second picture. I decided to experiment with it and glued the pages together so that I got a 4-page little book with thick pages. I cut the pages a bit so that the pages are even and it got nice rounded angles. The tiny yellow one with the dots is finished (just a tiny 'circulair' visual experience ;-)) and the orange one is WIP. It only has this front for now. I"ll fill it when I'll get an nice idea of what to put in it. Maybe little poems combined with drawings, or something else that inspires me a certain moment.

Fluffy & Aki

My 4-year old nephew made up a girl named Fluffy (don't know how he came up with this name, because he doesn't speak english ;-)) and a sea-gull named Aki. Don't know where that came from either, except for the fact that we were on the beach and he saw a sea-gull, but I found it funny. This is how Fluffy and Aki look like in my imigination ;-).

Yet another Moleskine

I started working in -yet another- Moleskine today. This time it's a little watercolour Moleskine book.
I have several going on. Every book has a theme, and I'm planning on working in each one every now and then. I find it hard to concentrate on one medium for a longer period, because I find so many things interesting to do and learn about. So I guess I"ll just have to skip from one to another, however I feel like.
This one is about watercolour. I also used a little pencil, stabilo fineliners and collage. Oh, and Indian Ink,
I've enjoyed working on these two a lot!

New and Old

Changed the look of this blog a bit. I needed a little change. :-)
Here's a drawing I did a couple of months ago with a little paper-collage piece in it. Can you see what's the paper-part? ;-)
My approach in this drawing was: Just draw what I want to draw, not with a specific idea about what I want to express. "Thinking about what to do" is a line I added afterwards; words to match the feeling that appeared  in the drawing.

Magic happens when Lily is reading a book. :-) This is a page from the story that is developing for visual journaling. Painting over what you don't like and altering...I kind of like how this page looks now. Needs a litle bit of paint to cover up previous layers and some finishing touch maybe, but other than that, I'm satisfied.
Visual journaling is fun. :-)

All the pages for assignment 1 for my visual journal....(hard work :-))

A couple of pages for first weeks assignment for visual journaling. I added a few things since I took the pictures, but more pictures coming soon! :-D This first week we have to glue material such as magazine or newspaper clippings of our own choice into the moleskine sketchbook, really fill the pages with this material, and leaving some space open for expansion in the next weeks assignments. We"ll be working with different media such as paint, text and photo's to fill it up in the next weeks.
